Poor pay for Indian tea workers brews deadly disputes

India is the world’s second-largest tea producer after China. But many workers in India’s tea plantations are so poorly paid they find it hard to feed their families.

Recently, workers at a tea plantation in eastern India killed the owner over a pay dispute – just the latest of several such attacks on tea executives by workers in recent years.

Sanjoy Majumder travelled to the area to investigate the human cost of producing one of the world’s most popular drinks.
